First Teen Idol preliminary today

Staff reports

If you missed Friday’s screening round for the West Virginia’s Teen Idol competition, it’s too late to compete today, but you can head to Charleston Town Center’s Macy’s Court at 1 p.m. for the first of four preliminaries to scope out the competition. Three more preliminaries remain on April 19, 26 and May 2.

To compete in one of those, you must attend a screening the night before at 6 p.m. You must also be a West Virginia resident ages 13-23 with no prior professional experience.

Come prepared to sing a current pop song (with clean lyrics) a cappella. No show tunes, gospel songs/hymns or oldies.

The semi-finals and finals will be May 10. The winner receives a prize package that includes a trip to Nashville for a recording session with a professional backing band, a career consultation and more.
