Billy Basil Hershberger, 84, of Procious, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at CAMC Memorial Hospital, Charleston, following a short illness.
Billy was the son of the late William Peter and Lois (Samples) Hershberger. He was also preceded in death by his son, David Wayne Hershberger; brother, Earl Hershberger; sisters, Lucille Conrad, Blanche Lanham and Juanita McClanahan; and an infant sister.
Billy was a pastor for the last 42 years, most of those at Pisgah Freewill Baptist Church, Clay. In addition, he was an operating engineer with Stevens Excavating and also with Orders & Haynes Paving Co.
Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Virginia Mae (Groves) Hershberger; daughters, Judy Dobbins and husband, Doc, of Procious and Susan Louise Poling and husband, Jesse, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; brothers, Bob Hershberger of Orlando, Fla., and Fred Hershberger of Akron, Ohio; sister, Betty Groves of Procious; daughter-in-law, Sue Beirne Hershberger; grandchildren, Beth Perez, Michael Poling, Matthew Dobbins and Trent Dobbins; and great-grandchildren, Cody Dobbins, Jarrett Dobbins, Clayton Dobbins, Chase Dobbins, Jordan River Dobbins, Zachary Perez and Angeline Perez.
Billy's funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, April 13, at Matics Funeral Home, Clendenin, with the Rev. Dennis Vance officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park, Bickmore.
