The Honorable David M. "Mick" Staton, 74, of Inwood, passed away Monday, April 14, 2014, at Winchester Medical Center in Virginia.
Born Feb. 11, 1940, in Parkersburg, he was the son of Delta R. (Gumm) Staton and the late Ernest R. Staton.
He was president and co-owner of Capitol Link, Inc.
He was a former member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1981 to 1982 and was political director of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in the 1980s.
Mick was chairman of the Berkeley County Republican Executive Committee and is an emeritus member of the West Virginia State Republican Executive Committee.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of Braddock Street United Methodist Church, Winchester, Va.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Lynn (Spencer) Staton; one daughter, Cynthia Lynn Staton; one son, David M. "Mick" Staton Jr. and wife, Michelle; five grandchildren, Matthew, Michael, Adam, Brian and Camille; and two brothers, John D. "Jack" Staton and Donald P. Staton.
Memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, April 21, at Braddock Street United Methodist Church, 115 Wolfe St., Winchester, VA 22601, with the Rev. Kirk Nave officiating.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, April 19, at Brown Funeral Home South Berkeley Chapel, Inwood.
Interment will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, at Evergreen North Cemetery, Parkersburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Braddock Street United Methodist Church, 115 Wolfe St., Winchester, VA 22601.
