Prep baseball: Norris sharp as Riverside tops South Charleston
Cameron Norris went the distance in pitching Riverside to a 6-2 high school baseball victory over South Charleston on Monday night at the Black Eagles’ Bryan-McElwain Field. Norris struck out 15 and walked four with one earned run. Norris also went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Chaz Davis went 3-for-3 with an RBI for Riverside. Trevor Sampson went 1-for-2 with an RBI for the Black Eagles in the loss. Riverside improves to 11-4. South Charleston falls to 7-8.
Charleston Catholic 10, Parkersburg Catholic 8 — Jordan Covellio had four hits and drove in two RBI to lead Class A No. 4 Charleston Catholic (11-5) to a road win over Class A No. 8 Parkersburg Catholic. Conner Golden and Sam McKown also added two RBI each for the Irish’s fourth win in the last five games. Jacob Ullman went 4-for-4 with a double, triple and two RBI for the Crusaders (8-9) in the loss.
In softball action:
Hurricane 20-10, Capital 0-0 — Hurricane (19-1) erupted for 30 runs, including three home runs, to win its sixth straight game in a double-header at Capital.
Addie Fullon and Courtney Rogers had nine RBI for the Redskins, while Katie Adams also added four RBI in the win over the Cougars. In game two, Cassi Sargent and Amber Null each had two RBI for Hurricane.
Cabell-Midland 9, Winfield 1 — Kyla Shull pitched seven innings striking out five giving up one run on three hits. Erin Keplin went 2-for-3 with two RBI for the Knights. Abbie Talbert also went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Ally Funk went 1-for-2 with an RBI for Winfield in the loss.
Wayne 4, Scott 1 — Jacey Parson was perfect 3-for-3 from the plate, including an RBI, to lead Wayne (13-5) to a home victory over Scott. Emily Thompson chipped in with a double for the Pioneers, while Alli Maynard added an RBI.
Poca 5, Point Pleasant 4 — Sarah Fisher scored on an error with one out in the bottom of the seventh to lift Poca (9-10) past the visiting Big Blacks (11-6). Madison Barker homered for Point Pleasant, while Tori Ward had a solo shot for the Dots.
Roane County 11-12, Braxton County 2-0 — Cassey Lassiter did all the work pitching for Roane County, winning both games. Lassiter struck out 11 over the two games, giving up two runs on eight total hits.
Miranda Hall went 2-for-5 with two RBI in the first game for Roane. Cassidy Taylor was the big bat in the second game for Roane going 2-for-2 with a double and four RBI. Madison Oney went 1-for-3 with an RBI for Braxton in the first game. Tiffany Conrad went 1-for-1 in the second game for Braxton County.
Sissonville 11, Clay 0 — Alexee Haynes went 2-for-2 with a double, a home runs, and five RBI for Sissonville in their win on the road. Taylor Casto pitched three innings giving up no hits and striking out six for the Indians.
