A brush fire that destroyed more than 130 acres along the New River Gorge is mostly contained on Wednesday, a park official said.
Investigators determined the fire, which started sometime late Sunday, was caused by humans, said National Park Service ranger Leah Perkowski-Sisk. The blaze is now “75 percent” contained, she said.
Favorable weather conditions and a trace amount of rain allowed firefighters to make headway on the fire, which began near Fern Creek, she said. The fire has closed the Endless Wall Trail and the Fern Creek and Nuttall parking areas.
The fire remains under investigation.
