Beckley man sentenced for apartment arson
CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Beckley man has been sentenced to five years in prison for setting fire to a Charleston apartment while his girlfriend and her 4-year-old child were inside.
Antonio LeJune Wade, 30, was sentenced Friday in U.S. District Court after pleading guilty to arson in January, U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin said.
Prosecutors say Wade intentionally set the fire after an argument with his girlfriend last August.
Wade set fire to clothes he had placed beneath a wooden staircase connected to the apartment. Officials say Wade knew the staircase was the only entrance and exit to the residence. The two escaped unharmed.
