GREENSBORO, N.C. — Greensboro took an early 1-0 lead and never looked back as the Grasshoppers edged the West Virginia Power 2-1 Monday at NewBridge Bank Park, taking three out of four games in the series.
The Grasshoppers (17-13) took the first-inning lead when Justin Bohn doubled and scored three pitches later on a triple by Austin Dean. Greensboro starter Matt Milroy (4-1) held that lead over the next four innings, going five complete and limiting the Power to just two hits and two walks.
Power starter Cody Dickson (2-4) threw five innings as well, allowing the one run on four hits with three strikeouts and two walks. The Grasshoppers added a second run against the Power bullpen in the bottom of the seventh inning.
In the eighth, West Virginia (11-20) tallied its lone run when Danny Collins singled and scored three batters later on a Justin Maffei fielder’s choice. The Power had the tying run in scoring position in the ninth before Greensboro’s Esmerling De La Rosa induced a ground out and a pop out to end the game with Reese McGuire stranded on third.
The Power has today off and returns home to host Savannah in a three-game series starting with a Grand Slam School Day at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
