South Charleston’s Jeri Potter is safe at second on a late throw to George Washington’s Olivia Cochran.

Matt Harrison went 2 for 3 with a pair of RBIs as Nitro defeated visiting Capital 10-2 Monday in high school baseball.

Jacob Bradley added two hits and drove home two runs for the Wildcats (20-6). Justin Palmer went 2 for 3 with a double for Capital.

Herbert Hoover 4, Scott 0: Matthew Justice struck out nine batters, pitching a one-hitter as Herbert Hoover secured a road win. Shaun Dotson had two hits including a home run and two RBIs for the Huskies (20-3) while Hunter White contributed three hits. Logan Phillips had the lone hit, a double, for Scott.

Woodrow Wilson 3, South Charleston 0: Brent Osborne went 2 for 4 with a double and RBI as Woodrow Wilson earned a road win for seventh place in the Mountain State Athletic Conference. Brandon Chandler had two hits and drove home a run for the Flying Eagles.

Ripley 5, Riverside 2: Trevor Tucker went 3 for 3 with a double, home run and three RBIs as Ripley bested Riverside for 13th place in the MSAC. Derik Chesnut had two hits for Riverside.

Sherman 7, Buffalo 2: John Hunter went 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs as Sherman picked up a win on the road. Aaron Lowe drove in a pair on a single and a double for the Tide (7-9). Connor Fields went 3 for 4 with a double for the Bison.

Logan 13, Lawrence County 3: Chase Preston went 3 for 5 with three RBIs to lead Logan to a five-inning mercy-rule home win. Chase Burnette added a pair of hits and a pair of RBIs for the Wildcats (15-8). Zack Keesee had two hits for Lawrence County (Ky.).

Softball

Valley 8, Van 0: Kailey Cooper pitched a one-hit shutout for host Valley in a Class A Region 3 Section 3 game. Kelsey Bird went 2 for 2 with a home run and three RBIs for the Greyhounds (18-3). Courtney Belcher has a double for Van (6-11).

Sherman 10, Van 0: Hayley Buzzard smacked a pair of doubles and drove home three runs as Sherman eliminated Van from the Class A Region 3 Section 3 tournament in a four-inning contest. Kylie Wells added two hits and two RBIs for the Tide (16-10).

Nitro 7, Huntington 2: Paige Scruggs went 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs as Nitro claimed a road win for ninth place in the Mountain State Athletic Conference. Syd Sipple had three hits for Huntington.
