CHARLESTON, W.Va. — One-run games haven’t been too kind to the West Virginia Power in their series at the Greensboro Grasshoppers. All four of the series’ games have been decided by one run, and the Power lost three of them, including Monday’s 2-1 series-ending loss in Greensboro.
Down 2-0 in the eighth, West Virginia got its lone run of the game when a Justin Maffei fielder’s choice allowed Danny Collins to score. The Power (11-20) had the tying run in scoring position in the ninth, but Grasshoppers (17-13) reliever Esmerling De La Rosa got the Power to ground out and pop out to end the game with Reese McGuire stranded on third base.
Cody Dickson (2-3) took the loss for the Power, allowing one run on four hits with three strikeouts and two walks over five innings. The Power is off Tuesday, and returns to action Wednesday at 10:30 a.m., hosting Savannah in the first of a three-game series.
