CHAOS SOCCER: West Virginia opens season at home against SC United Bantams
CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Chaos opens its 12th season of play at 7 p.m. Thursday against visiting South Carolina United Bantams at Schoenbaum Stadium.
Former Chaos coach Chris Grassie returns to the bench for West Virginia this season after player/coach Predrag Ivanovic served one year in the position with the club. Grassie, a former assistant at the University of Michigan, has been the coach of the men’s team at the University of Charleston since 2011. Last season The Chaos finished with a 5-7-2 record and missed out on the United Soccer Leagues’ Premier Development League playoffs. West Virginia set a club record for win in Grassie’s last season with the team — 2012 — when the Chaos finished 8-5-3.
This season the Chaos is in the Eastern Conference of the USL PDL, and within that in the Southwest Division along with Bluefield-based Southern West Virginia King’s Warriors, Carolina Dynamo, Cincinnati Dutch Lions, River City Rovers and SC United Bantams.
