CHARLESTON, W.Va. — West Virginia will play host to LSU as part of the Big 12/SEC Challenge. The game will be Dec. 4 at the Coliseum as part of the four-day, 10-game competition between the two conferences. The Big 12 won the inaugural challenge last season, though the Mountaineers lost at Missouri.
“The Big 12 was thrilled with the success of the Challenge last season,” Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby said “We are equally excited about this year’s games that will continue to add quality opponents to our strong non-conference schedules as we look to defend our performance as the nation’s No. 1 conference.”
The Big 12 was 7-3 against the SEC last season. Each game this season will be on one of the ESPN networks, including the third game in the all-time series between the Mountaineers and Tigers. WVU won at LSU in November 2004 and LSU won at WVU in November 2005.
The first game in the challenge is Auburn at Texas Tech Dec. 3. Arkansas plays at Iowa State, Baylor plays at Vanderbilt and TCU plays at Mississippi a day later. In addition to the event’s marquee games — Florida at Kansas and Texas at Kentucky — Missouri plays at Oklahoma Dec. 5 Kansas State plays at Tennessee and Oklahoma plays at South Carolina Dec. 6.
