Someone planted several explosive devices around the Weirton city building on Monday night, Police Chief Bruce Marshall says.
A Weirton police officer discovered one explosive device at the front door of city hall at about 11 p.m. Monday. The officer then discovered several more devices around the building, including one underneath a police cruiser, Marshall said.
Bomb experts arrived and defused the devices, which Marshall said were a real threat. No one was injured.
“As you can imagine this is our number one priority right now,” he said.
Marshall would not elaborate on possible suspects for fear of harming the investigation. The FBI collected evidence on Wednesday, he said.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Weirton Police Department at 304-797-8576 or the FBI.
