Children’s concert

Mountaineer Montessori School will present a concert featuring vocal and instrumental selections from around the world at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center, Charleston Division Auditorium, 3110 MacCorkle Ave. S.E. Under the direction of Karen Morris; students ages 3 to 12 will sing and play a variety of Orff instruments, including Peruvian chimes, at the school’s annual spring performance. Admission is free. Parks and recreation commission

Kanawha County Parks and Recreation Commission will meet at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the Coonskin Clubhouse Oak Room, Coonskin Park. The agenda is available at the park office. Call 304-341-8000 for more information.

Grant-writing workshop

West Virginia Humanities Council grants administrator Amy Saunders Postalwait will conduct a grant-writing workshop from 10:30 a.m. to noon Thursday at the Calhoun County Historical Society Museum, 344 Main Street, Grantsville. International sorority

Charleston City Council of Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority is having their Ms. Charleston Beta Sigma Phi Pageant at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Bream Memorial Presbyterian Church, 317 Washington St. W. Host chapters will be Torchbearer Alpha and Alpha Theta Master. Candidates need to arrive at 6:15 p.m.

Festival/juried art show

The Upshur Arts Alliance is sponsoring the Strawberry Festival 2014 Juried Art Show from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, and from 10 a.m. to noon on May 17 at West Virginia Wesleyan College on the left balcony of Rockefeller Gym. Deadline for entry into the exhibit is noon Wednesday. Call 304-472-6012 for information.
