Pinch community meeting

Kanawha County Coalition for Community Health Improvement and Kanawha Communities That Care are conducting community meetings where parents can learn from experts about the dangers, signs and symptoms of drug abuse, and steps they can take to protect their children from prescription drug abuse. The first meeting will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, 80 St. Andrew Lane, Pinch. Meeting host will be the Pinch Neighborhood Watch Program. School open house

Charleston Montessori School will have an open house from 5 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at 805 Price St. The school provides education for children ages 3-12. Rand Community Center

The Rand Thrift Store and Free Clothing Room will be open from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the Rand Community Center, 5701 Church Drive. Donations are accepted for the free clothing room or items that can be sold in the thrift store. Items can be dropped off at the center or call 304-925-9200 for information. The sewing room is open to anyone interested in sewing or quilting from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursdays. For information on the sewing room, contact Frances at 304-807-1200.

Putnam senior picnic

Putnam Aging and the city of Hurricane will sponsor the annual Putnam County Senior Picnic from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Waves of Fun Park on Valley Park Drive in Hurricane. All Putnam County residents ages 60 and older, along with their caregivers of any age, are invited to attend free of charge for hours of entertainment, including games, drawings and more. Lunch will be provided. Live music will be provided by Frankie McCallister. Transportation to the senior picnic can be arranged by calling 304-755-2385 or emailing PR@PutnamAging.com.
