SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Police believe that an elderly man’s body found in the Kanawha River on Wednesday night had been in the river for several weeks.
Detective A.R. Gordon of the South Charleston Police Department said police are still investigating, but that they don’t suspect foul play.
“There was nothing that was found during the autopsy indicative that any type of assault occurred,” Gordon said Thursday afternoon.
Someone called police after spotting the body in the Kanawha River near 40 Dunbar Ave. in South Charleston at about 7:50 p.m., according to a Kanawha County Metro 911 dispatcher.
Police believe they have identified the dead man, but would not release his name until his family can be notified, South Charleston Police Chief Brad Rinehart said Thursday morning.
