CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- One person is dead in a head-on crash that closed part of MacCorkle Avenue near Marmet on Wednesday.
At about 9:30 a.m., a maroon Pontiac G6 was going south on MacCorkle Avenue S.E. when it collided head-on with a gray Jeep Wrangler heading north, according to a news release from Kanawha County Sheriff’s Cpl. Brian Humphreys.
The collision occurred in the 7800 block of MacCorkle Avenue S.E. The impact forced the Jeep into the retaining wall separating MacCorkle Avenue and Interstate 64, according to the release. The Jeep’s driver and passenger were taken to CAMC General Hospital. The driver of the Pontiac was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses described the Pontiac crossing the center lane before the collision, according to the news release. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt. The person’s body was taken to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Officer for autopsy, and names are being withheld pending family notification.
The collision closed part of MacCorkle Avenue for more than four hours.
