Power downs Augusta in 10 innings

AUGUSTA, Ga. — Danny Collins’ sacrifice fly with the bases loaded in the top of the 10th helped the West Virginia Power beat the Augusta GreenJackets 5-4 in Wednesday night.

Augusta took a 2-0 lead off Power starter Shane Carle in the second inning, but the Power tied the game in the sixth on a run-scoring ground out by Edwin Espinal and an RBI single by Wyatt Mathisen.

Harold Ramirez drove in Candon Myles in the seventh and Collins doubled home Erich Weiss in the eighth to give the Power a 4-2 lead, but Augusta scored twice in the bottom of the eighth to foce extra innings.

In the top of the 10th, the Power loaded the bases with one out and Collins hit a fly ball to right field to bring in Reese McGuire to give West Virginia the eventual winning run.

Carle pitched six innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits with two strikeouts. Power reliever Yhonathan Barrios (1-3) earned the victory with two scoreless innings of relief over the ninth and 10th. Augusta’s Jacob Smith (0-1) took the loss.

West Virginia and Augusta continue the series at 7 tonight. Buddy Borden will pitch for the Power against the GreenJackets’ Carlos Diaz.
