A sizable crowd gathered for the unveiling of the newly refurbished sign at Fountain Hobby Center on Washington Street West Thursday night. The sign, which was made in 1947, was taken down for repairs last year. Though city zoning laws have barred signs that protrude from buildings since the early 1980s, the store was able to convince city officials to make an exception because of the sign’s historical nature. West Side Main Street provided a $1,000 grant for the project.
