Power home tonight after another one-run loss
AUGUSTA, Ga. — The West Virginia Power lost its second straight one-run game, falling 2-1 to the Augusta GreenJackets Friday evening at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
The Power scored in the first inning when Justin Maffei singled and scored on a ground out by Reese McGuire for a 1-0 Power lead.
In the second, Augusta scored two runs on three hits against Power starter Cody Dickson. Augusta’s Brandon Bednar singled and scored on a double from Ryan Tuntland, and Tuntland scored on a single by Cristian Paulino.
Matt Lujan (5-1) retired 10 straight Power hitters spanning the third and sixth innings and Lujan and Augusta relievers Ray Black and Daniel Slania combined to retire the final nine West Virginia batters. Dickson (2-5) scattered two more hits over five complete innings, walking three and striking out six. Slania pitched a perfect ninth for his second save.
West Virginia returns to Appalachian Power Park today to start an eight-game, nine-day home stand against the Delmarva Shorebirds and Lakewood BlueClaws. Justin Topa will start the series opener tonight for the Power against the Shorebirds’ Luis Gonzalez.
