Hoover, Hurricane baseball teams advance to regionals

Defending Class AA champion Herbert Hoover continued its quest for back-to-back championships by capturing the Region 4, Section 1 title with a 19-1 win over Nicholas County Wednesday.

The Huskies (25-4) pounded out 13 hits, including a pair of homers from Joel Ridenour and a three-run homer by Shaun Dotson.

Dotson finished with five RBI, while Ridenour knocked in four.

Cody Bowen picked up the complete game win for Hoover, while adding three RBI at the plate.

Matt Doddrill had two hits for Nicholas County, whose season ended at 12-12.

Hoover will face Poca in a Region 4 semifinal match up on May 26.

Hurricane 18, Lincoln County 0 — Junior J.T. Rogoszewski went 2-for-3 with a grand slam homerun and six RBI to lead the Redskins (23-7) to the Class AAA Region 4, Section 3 championship.

Hurricane also had a two RBI from senior Tyson Edwards, while sophomore Branson Martin added a double and an RBI.

Juniors Kevin SanGregory and Blake Stump each had a single for the only hits in the loss for Lincoln County.
