CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Cameron Norris hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to seal a 10-0 win against Ripley (20-13) and deliver the Region 4, Section 2 baseball title to Riverside (20-10). The Warriors Riverside scored five runs in the second, three in the fourth, and two in the fifth to capture the school’s second consecutive sectional championship.
Norris, who signed recently to play at West Virginia State, also pitched five innings striking out eight.
First year coach for the Warriors, Pat Vogelsang, was confident in his team, “We’re walking tall right now. If you put the Detroit Tigers out on the field, we would expect to win.” The Warriors defeated Capital once and Ripley twice to advance to regional play next week. Vogelsang said he isn’t content with his team’s accomplishments just yet.
“This is the plaque we already have,” he said, “Our goal is to put the regional plaque in our trophy case.”
