Area roundup: Webster, Evans lead at state 4-ball

Charleston’s Chris Webster and William Evans combined for a 6-under-par 66 to take the lead after the opening round of the West Virginia Four-Ball Championship Saturday at Stonewall Resort in Roanoke.

Two-time West Virginia Two-Man Scramble champions Sam O’Dell and John Duty Jr. were one stroke back at 5-under 67, tied with past champions Steve Fox and Pat Carter. (See results, Page 2D.)

The defending champions from Bridgeport, Jay and Woody Woodward, shot an even-par 72.

The second and final round begins at 8 a.m. today.

CHAOS SOCCER: The West Virginia Chaos defeated the Southern West Virginia King’s Warriors 1-0 Saturday at Schoenbaum Stadium.

The Chaos’ Jake Szabo scored in the 89th minute off an assist from Ryan Osborne to earn the victory.

The next home game for the Chaos (3-2-1) will be against the Carolina Dynamo at 7 p.m. Saturday at Schoenbaum.

BASEBALL CAMP: COACHING CLASS: CORRECTION: In last Saturday’s editions in a story about the 100th state track meet, Bill Young’s school was misidentified. Young was a double winner in the 1943 state meet for Dunbar High School.
