GREENSBORO, N.C. — Kentrell Dwitt and Feliz Munoz hit home runs as the Greensboro Grasshoppers defeated the West Virginia Power 5-3 Saturday.
The Grasshoppers built a 5-0 lead before the Power plated three eighth-inning runs to close the scoring.
Greensboro took a 1-0 lead against Power starter Buddy Borden (2-3) in the third inning on a run-scoring ground out and added two in the fourth on Dewitt’s home run. Munoz homered off West Virginia reliever Henry Hirsch in the sixth inning to build a 5-0 advantage.
Domingo German (5-1) retired the first 13 Power hitters he face and limited West Virginia (20-35) to four hits over the first seven innings. In the eighth, with German still on the hill, the Power’s Justin Maffei, Harold Ramirez and JaCoby Jones each singled to load the bases. Edwin Espinal singled in two runs and a third run scored on an error to cut the Greensboro lead to two.
Grasshopper reliever Josh Easley put the tying run on base but finished off the inning without allowing another run and closer Sean Donatello struck out the side in the ninth for his seventh save.
The Power and Grasshoppers close the four-game series today before West Virginia returns home Monday to host the Kannapolis Intimidators.
