CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Work crews for Appalachian Power and FirstEnergy were making progress Thursday afternoon restoring electricity to customers who were knocked out by Wednesday night's thunderstorms.
About 285 Appalachian Power customers remained without power Thursday afternoon, down from about 4,600 Wednesday night.
Power for FirstEnergy customers was almost completely restored Thursday afternoon. Outages for FirstEnergy customers were down from about 1,100 to fewer than 21 at 4:30 p.m.
Earlier Thursday, hundreds of customers each in Kanawha, Raleigh and Fayette counties were without electricity.
