Rodgers added to Greenbrier Classic
Patrick Rodgers, winner of the this year’s Haskins Award for college golf’s most outstanding male player — has accepted an exemption to compete in the Greenbrier Classic.
The junior from Avon, Ind., has won 11 individual championships in his collegiate career, equaling a school record held by 1996 Haskins recipient Tiger Woods.
In addition to the Haskins Award, Rodgers’ career at Stanford includes including Pac-12 player of the year, the Ben Hogan Award and the Jack Nicklaus Award as the national player of the year.
Rosters revised for North-South Basketball
Three players have been added to the rosters for the North-South All-Star Basketball game set for Friday, June 20 at the South Charleston Community Center.
Added to the North squad was Ben Collie of Parkersburg Catholic (see revised rosters, Page 2B). Joining the South are Raeshawn Breckenridge of Valley Fayette and Taylor Hearn of Winfield.
Kenny Howell named AD at WVU Tech
Kenny Howell was recently named the athletic director at WVU Tech.
Howell, who has been the interim AD at Tech since the fall of 2013, has served 11 years in college athletics as an athlete, coach and administrator at the NCAA Division II and NAIA levels.
He has spent the last eight years in various duties on the Montgomery campus.
Jackson taps Fisher to coach Knicks
The New York Knicks hired Derek Fisher as their new coach, with Phil Jackson turning to one of his most trustworthy former players.
Just days after finishing his 18th playing season, Fisher was tabbed to replace Mike Woodson, whom Jackson fired after the season in his first major move as team president.
