Cecil R. Lawrence

Cecil Robert Lawrence, 71, of Charleston, died June 7, 2014, at home.

He retired from the West Virginia Bureau of Employment Programs after 24 years of service and was a U.S. Navy veteran in the Vietnam era, serving on the USS Saratoga.

He was preceded in death by parents, Walter H. and Mabel Marie Clark Lawrence; brothers, Jack, Charles and Walter Lawrence Jr.; and sister, Norma Sue Lawrence.

Surviving are his wife, Helen Marcella Shabdue Lawrence of Charleston; son, Robert Gregory Lawrence of Sissonville; daughter, Lisa Dawn (Cliff) Wilkerson of Cottageville; stepsons, Christopher Slater of Sissonville, Jamison Slater of Knoxville, Tenn., and Timothy Slater of Pigeon Forge, Tenn.; sisters, Betty O'Meara of Cabin Creek, Shirley Anna "Annie" Petry of Chesapeake and Pat Belcher of Parkersburg; brothers, Howard Lawrence of Hernshaw, Frank Lawrence of Hurricane and Edward Lawrence of Chesapeake; grandchildren, Dustin and Derek Hopkins, C.J. Slater and Jessica Globig; and great-grandchildren, Austin and Julie.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Leonard Johnson Funeral Home, Marmet, is in charge of arrangements.
