Charleston police are searching for a suspect in the early morning theft of a vehicle that was later found on fire.
According to Charleston Police Sergeant Tony Hazelett, the car, a BMW 745, was stolen from the 7-Eleven on Washington Street in Charleston's East End at approximately 1:15 a.m. Thursday. An hour later, members of the Pinch Volunteer Fire Department responded to a scene on Rutledge Road near Gregory Lane, where they found the car on fire.
Surveillance video from the store shows a man wearing a black hoodie and black pants, Hazelett said. Although the exact cause of the fire has not been determined, Hazelett said it appears to have been intentional. The BMW has been declared a total loss.
