Kanawha County students can win gift cards in the Capitol Conservation District’s 2014 Poster Contest. The theme is “Dig Deeper: Mysteries in the Soil.” Open to K-12 students, posters must be made on 14-by-22-inch poster board for grades K-6, and 22-by-28-inch poster board for grades 7-12. Posters will be judged in each of these grade categories: K-1, 2-3, 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12. Any media may be used to create a flat or two-dimensional effect with paint, crayons, colored pencils, charcoal, paper or other materials. The posters will be evaluated on message, visual effectiveness, originality and universal appeal. Greenbrier Historical Society is accepting new members. The Fresh Air Fund, an independent, nonprofit agency, provides free summer experiences to New York City children from low-income communities through the fund’s Volunteer Host Family Program.
