State appoints new Fayette County superintendent

By The West Virginia Board of Education appointed Serena Starcher-Martin as interim superintendent of Fayette County Schools on June 12.

Starcher-Martin was appointed to serve from July 1 to Dec. 31, said Virginia Harris of the state Department of Education.

Starcher-Martin currently serves as one of two district associate superintendents, according to the district website.

The district, which is under state control, is in the process of consolidating a number of its schools.

Starcher-Martin could not be reached for comment Thursday afternoon.
