Manager robbed at Kanawha City restaurant

By Staff reports

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Charleston police are looking for a man who robbed the manager of a Kanawha City restaurant late Monday.

Sgt. Tony Hazelett of the Charleston Police Department said the manager of the Steak Escape restaurant on MacCorkle Avenue had just opened the back door to put out the trash a little before 10:30 p.m. when he was punched in the mouth and head by an unidentified man.

The manager, who was also carrying the restaurant's night deposit bag, fell to the ground, Hazelett said. The suspect then ran off with the deposit, Hazelett said, and witnesses last saw him getting into a white Ford Windstar van with stickers on the back.

The suspect was described as a black man about 5 foot 6 and weighing about 275 pounds. He was wearing dark, baggy clothing.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Charleston Police Department Criminal Investigation Division at 304-348-6480.
