Weekend events close city streets

Drivers in Charleston can expect delays and detours this weekend due to several citywide events.

Kanawha Boulevard will be closed between Clendenin and Capitol streets starting at 5:30 p.m. on Friday for Live on the Levee. It will remain closed through Saturday evening for the Smoke on the Water Chili Cookoff.

Court Street, Piedmont Road and Farnsworth Drive will be closed starting at 8 a.m. Saturday for the Charleston Area Medical Center Foundation’s Run For Your Life--a five-mile run and 2.5-mile walk. Streets will be open after 10 a.m.

Kanawha Boulevard will also be closed Saturday from McFarland to Capitol streets for FestivALL Art Parade staging. The parade will travel down Capitol Street to Smith Street starting at 10 a.m.

Matthews and Park avenues on Charleston’s West Side will be closed Saturday at 7 a.m. for the West Side Weiner Dog Races. Those streets will remain closed until after the Ice Cream Social Sunday evening.
