LAKEWOOD, N.J. — West Virginia started the second half of the season on the right foot with a 2-1 win over Lakewood Thursday at FirstEnergy Stadium, snapping the Power’s 14-game losing streak accumulated prior to the South Atlantic League All-Star break.
Buddy Borden (3-5) earned the win, allowing one run on six hits over six innings for the Power (21-48 overall, 1-0 second half), while Isaac Sanchez racked up his third save. Mark Leiter (5-6) was tabbed with the loss for the BlueClaws, giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits with nine strikeouts in seven innings.
Danny Collins had an RBI single in the sixth inning to put the Power ahead for good. Zach Green and Carlos Tocci had two hits apiece for Lakewood.
West Virginia will continue its four-game series with Lakewood at 7:05 tonight.
