Names in the games: WVU football, Gatorade track, Greenbrier Classic
WVU vs. Youngstown in football in 2016
WVU Director of Athletics Oliver Luck has announced that the Mountaineers will play host to Youngstown State in a non-conference football game on Sept. 10, 2016 at Milan Puskar Stadium.
The Mountaineers also are scheduled to face BYU on Sept. 24 at FedEx Field in Washington in a non-conference game that season.
Poca’s Buckley wins Gatorade track honor
Christian Buckley of Poca High School was named the 2013-14 Gatorade West Virginia Boys Track & Field Athlete of the Year Friday, the first track and field athlete to receive the award in school history.
The 6-foot-3, 235-pound junior won two individual state championships at the Class AA state meet this spring and led the Dots to a seventh-place finish as a team. Buckley set a meet record in the shot put (59 feet, 7.5 inches) and took first in the discus (174-4). Undefeated in both throwing disciplines as a sophomore and junior, he is a two-time USATF National Junior Olympics Track & Field Championships All-American in the discus.
Buckley has maintained a weighted 4.13 grade-point in the classroom. The president of the Poca High junior class and also a member of the student council and has volunteered locally as a peer tutor and youth track coach.
‘Duck Dynasty’ stars coming to Greenbrier
Willie and Jase Robertson, the stars of A&E’s television show Duck Dynasty, will participate in the Pro-Am at The Greenbrier Classic on July 2, Greenbrier owner Jim Justice announced Friday night.
They’ll play in a group with Justice and touring pro Bubba Watson, a Greenbrier resident and the 2014 Masters champion.
The Robertson brothers will play in the Pro-Am on the Wednesday before the Classic’s first round, attend the Lady Antebellum concert and return to Louisiana.
