An East Bank man threatened to kill his girlfriend and himself with a sword then rammed her vehicle with his pickup truck Tuesday afternoon, according to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office.
Dennie Lester, 59, was arrested after the disturbance with his ex-wife, who is also his current girlfriend, according to police.
Dispatchers got calls about the incident, which happened on Gladys Avenue, around 4:50 p.m. After getting into a verbal argument with the woman, Lester allegedly got a sword and threatened to kill her and himself. He chased her around the yard, then got into his truck, which he used to ram his girlfriend’s car.
When he fled the area, he struck another car head-on in a construction zone on Route 61, according to police. Lester then tried again to flee, but got his vehicle stuck on an embankment nearby, police say.
Other motorists briefly held him at the scene but he got away and ran, according to the release from the sheriff’s office.
Deputies reportedly caught up with him as he was crawling onto railroad tracks. They found the sword in his truck, according to the release. Lester is being evaluated at a hospital, according to the sheriff’s department.
Charges have not yet been announced.
