William C. Broughton Sr., 72, of Gettysburg, Pa., died Monday, June 23, 2014, at Gettysburg Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Born Jan. 19, 1942, in Julian, W.Va., he was the son of the late William and Grace (Curry) Broughton. William is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lucy V. (Moritz) Broughton.
He was a veteran, serving as a Lance Corporal with the United States Marine Corps from 1959 to 1963. Memberships include: American Legion Post No. 202, Fairfield AmVets Post No. 172, Golden Eagle at the Gettysburg Eagles, life member of Adams County Fish and Game Association and South Mountain Fish and Game Association. William had worked for the former Zerfing's Hardware Store in Gettysburg from 1980 to 1998.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Katherine M. Sharrah of Gettysburg; sons, William C. Congleton and wife, Karen, of Gettysburg and William C. Broughton Jr. of Gettysburg; seven grandchildren, Shannon and Jessica Congleton, Benjamin, Kenneth and Seth Broughton and Rachel and Kelli Sharrah; a sister, Lisa Gossage of Florida; and four brothers, Edward, Mark and Timothy Broughton and Wayne Chambers, all of West Virginia.
Graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 27, at 11 a.m. at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Gettysburg, with the Rev. Walter Barlow officiating. Full military honors will be provided by the Adams County Allied Veterans Association.
