BECKLEY, W.Va. – A water project in Mercer County has received a federal loan and a grant totaling more than $17 million.

The Green Valley-Glenwood Public Service District will use the funding to upgrade its water system and to extend public water service to more than two dozen households.

The funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development includes a nearly $16 million low-interest loan and a grant of more than $1 million.

U.S. Rep. Nick Rahall announced the funding on Monday in a news release.
