Three businesses will compete for two cash prizes at an entrepreneur’s event later this month.
Unlimited Future, a Huntington-based business incubator, is inviting Tri-State residents to its next Entrepreneurs’ Cafe July 16.
The event will run from noon to 1 p.m. at the Cabell County Library located at 455 9th St., Huntington.
“It’s a way to help businesses that don’t need a large amount of capital but may need $400 to $500 to buy one piece of equipment and that one piece of equipment could launch their business,” Ursulette Huntley, of Unlimited Future, said. “They need capital but not a large amount. We saw this as a way to fill that gap.”
Unlimited Future’s micro-loans range from $5,000 to $15,000.
The businesses’ presentations will be judged by a popular vote and a “shark tank” panel of community business professionals.
Huntley said the two votes allow for more balance. The shark tank vote, she said, would focus more on structure business judgment, and the popular vote would emphasize how attendees reacted to how businesses’ presentations looked and made them feel.
Attendees will pay $15, a portion of which goes toward the winning businesses and food and drink. Attendees will also have the opportunity to network with other entrepreneurs at the event.
The Entrepreneurs’ Cafe is part of the new “Huntington: Be Small. Live Large” initiative focused on supporting and promoting existing small businesses and inspire entrepreneurs.
