SALISBURY, Md. — The West Virginia Power used a five-run sixth inning and three pitchers combining for a five-hit shutout to take the first game in a three-game series versus the Delmarva Shorebirds, 5-0. After losing six straight, the Power (10-9, 30-57 overall) has won two of its last three.
Danny Collins and Elvis Escobar each hit two-run singles in the sixth, while the Power was helped by two Shorebirds errors in that inning. Meanwhile, starter Buddy Borden and relievers Felipe Gonzalez and Brett McKinney threw a total of five strikeouts to blank Delmarva. Borden earned the win with five innings of work, allowing two hits with four strikeouts and a walk.
The two teams face off again Tuesday at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium at 7:05 p.m.
