Redith "Rita" Clark

Redith "Rita" Painter Clark, 60, of Charleston, passed away Monday, July 7, 2014, at Thomas Memorial Hospital from pulmonary fibrosis, complicated by pneumonia. She was born Sept. 21, 1953, to the late Owen and Ellen Painter on Poca River Road and was one of 10 children. Rita graduated from Sissonville High School in 1971.

She wore several hats during her years of employment, which included being a small business entrepreneur, office at Edgewood Country Club, and for the last several years she was a caregiver to many patients who loved her dearly. Rita was very well-respected by all who knew her. I am sure all the guys and girls who danced the night away at the Knights of Pythian building will be greatly saddened. She always looked her very best when out and about with all her bling-bling and with that beautiful smile on her face.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Curtis Clark; brothers, Sonny, Clinton and Jimmy; and sisters, Arnetta and Connie.

Surviving are her daughter and her husband, Marty and Curtis Lanham; son and his wife, Johnny and Shelly Clark; stepchildren, Roy Curtis Jr. (Joyce), Russell, Renwick and Ralph Clark, all of Charleston; sisters, Rose Z. Blaylock (Bill) of Pinch and Brenda Fields of Charleston; brothers, Bob (Phyllis) of Sissonville and Steve Painter of Charleston; sisters-in-law, Barbara Painter, Lisa Painter and Debbie Painter of Charleston; grandchildren, Bethanie, Garrett, Derrick and Cain; step-grandchildren, Shawn, Patty, Brian, Clark and Karen Wannell; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Good Shepherd Mortuary, South Charleston, with the Rev. Joel Harpold officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Gardens of Memories, Pocatalico.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the mortuary.

The family would like to thank the staff of Thomas Memorial Hospital for the excellent care she received there, all the way from the emergency room to the ICU.
