CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Democratic Congressman Nick Rahall raised almost $528,000 last quarter and maintains a cash edge over Republican challenger Evan Jenkins, whose haul topped $500,000.
Rahall headed into July with $1.1 million in the bank for his bid to secure a 20th term. Jenkins, a state senator who flipped from Democrat to Republican to run, has almost $700,000 in campaign cash.
The campaigns released fundraising numbers this week before their July 15 reporting deadline. The totals account for April through June.
Candidate cash has been no match for outside spending in the 3rd Congressional District.
The conservative Americans for Prosperity and American Energy Alliance have spent $2 million to bash Rahall. The liberal House Majority PAC has spent $1.1 million against Jenkins.
Rahall easily won his May 13 primary. Jenkins was unopposed.
