71-year-old man beaten with baseball bat, robbed

MAYSEL, W.Va. — A 71-year-old man was beaten with a baseball bat during a robbery in Maysel Thursday, state police said.

William B. Vineyard was leaving Jesse Sez Restaurant/Bar at 1:15 a.m. when a male suspect attacked him with a baseball bat, injuring his face, arm and shoulder, according to a release from Lt. Michael Baylous, spokesman for the West Virginia State Police. The man stole a “large sum of money,” according to police.

The suspect, who was described as a white male wearing dark jeans, a hooded sweat shirt and a mask, left the scene on foot.

The victim’s grandson chased the suspect into the woods, but stopped when the suspect said he had a gun.
