CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Republican Congressman David McKinley raked in about $207,000 last fundraising period, easily topping Democrat Glen Gainer’s $88,000 effort.
In the First Congressional District race, McKinley maintained about $1.5 million in his campaign account heading into July. Gainer reported $188,000 in campaign cash.
Both candidates have debt from loaning their campaigns money. McKinley’s campaign owes $415,000, while Gainer’s owes $10,000 from personal loans.
McKinley is seeking his third term in Congress. Gainer has served as West Virginia’s state auditor since 1993.
By Tuesday, candidates had to file campaign finance reports covering April 24 through June.
McKinley’s district includes northern portions of West Virginia.
