West Virginia University’s football team has been picked to finish eighth this coming season, according to the Big 12 media poll released this morning by the league.
Picked ahead of the Mountaineers are No. 1 Oklahoma (with 47 of the possible 56 first-place votes), No. 2 Baylor (9 first-place votes), 3. Kansas State, No. 4 Texas, No. 5 Oklahoma State, No. 6 Texas Tech and No. 7 TCU. Oklahoma returns 20 starters from last season’s 11-2 Sugar Bowl team that defeated Alabama.
Iowa State and Kansas were rated No. 9 and 10, respectively.
The Mountaineers are coming off a 4-8 season.
Head coaches, selected players and the media will meet in Dallas July 21-22 for the annual Big 12 media days.
