Book Notes: July 20, 2014
DUNBAR, W.Va. — Join author and historian Dean King at the Dunbar Branch Library, 301 12th St., Dunbar, on Monday for a new look at the Hatfield-McCoy feud.
King broke new ground in 2013 in his book “The Feud: The Hatfields & McCoys, The True Story,” with quotes from contemporary newspaper accounts and other information that was not available when Otis K. Rice wrote his account back in 1982.
King’s lecture will be followed by a question-and-answer session and a book signing. Copies of the book will be available for purchase. This event is for adults. The presentation begins at 7 p.m.
Book launch party
CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Frances Simone, author of “Dark Wine Waters: My Husband of a Thousand Joys and Sorrows” (Central Recovery Press, July 2014), will have a book launch party from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Aug. 7 at Taylor Books.
Dr. Simone’s gritty memoir was just reviewed by Library Journal. The reviewer notes: “While aspects of the author’s account are bleak, it ends with her in a 12-step program for families, suggesting a hopeful outcome. … Readers with an interest in addiction and recovery memoirs will likely relate to Simone’s story.”
