Teacher who reportedly solicited student will have personnel hearing

ELKINS -- An Elkins High School teacher arrested and charged with solicitation of a teenage student is still an employee of the Randolph County Board of Education as he awaits a personnel hearing.

Donald Johnson Jr., 33, is scheduled for a hearing before the Board of Education on July 31, according to Randolph County Schools Superintendent Terry George.

Johnson, a library-media specialist, allegedly sent sexually explicit text messages to a 16-year-old female student and asked the girl to send pictures of her “posing in an inappropriate manner,” which she did, according to the criminal complaint.

“It’s an open personnel matter,” George said. “As a result of that I can’t discuss the case at any great length.”

George said he had been in contact with other students about the alleged abuse.

“We made the counselors available to any student who may have been involved,” he said.

More information will be made available after the personnel issue is resolved at the board hearing, George said.
