Police: infant dies after parents sell formula to buy drugs
A 20-month-old infant died from anemia and malnutrition after his Mason County parents traded his formula in for money for drugs, according to state police.
Jimmie Edwards, 25, of Milton, is charged with child abuse causing death, while Carla Adkins, 31, is charged with child neglect causing death.
The parents allegedly received baby formula from WIC, then returned the formula to stores for cash to buy meth and fed the infant store-bought milk instead, according to a West Virginia State Police dispatcher.
The child, Carson, developed anemia and malnutrition, causing a total organ shutdown.
Both were being held on $500,000 bail at Western Regional Jail as of late Tuesday.
