WVU vs. Tennessee in Charlotte in 2018
West Virginia and Tennessee will open the 2018 college football season at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.
The first meeting ever between the schools will be played Sept. 1, 2018. The Gazette on April 1 first reported the game being played.
It will mark the first game for Tennessee in Charlotte. It also will be the Volunteers’ third neutral-site game in four years. Tennessee opens the 2015 season at LP Field in Nashville against UAB and meets Virginia Tech at Bristol Motor Speedway in 2016.
West Virginia is 1-1 in bowl games at Bank of America.
Milovich offers to get exam during game
Andy Milovich, the general manager of the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (S.C.) minor league baseball team, has offered to have a prostate exam during Thursday’s home game as part of the team’s prostate cancer awareness night.
Milovich, the former GM of the West Virginia Power, will sing “Take Me Out To The Ball Game’’ during the seventh-inning stretch while having the exam if Fallon Emery, a Myrtle-area 10-year-old battling brain cancer, gets 10,000 likes on her Facebook page by noon Thursday.
“It’s not like I would be getting it at home plate,’’ Milovich said. “I’ll likely do it from our radio booth and the fans will see me from the shoulder up. If what we do saves a kid from having to lose his or her father because they get checked out, this will be worth it.’’
WVU’s Fleming signs with Yankees
West Virginia second baseman Billy Fleming signed a contract recently with the New York Yankees, foregoing his upcoming senior season.
Fleming, second in the Big 12 in batting average (.351), earned All-Big 12 first-team and All-East Region first-team honors this past season. He’s currently playing in the Cape Cod League (.357, 18 RBIs).
