Marian Elizabeth Haddad Ghiz, 87, departed this life on July 21, 2014, at CAMC Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Clothier and grew up in South Charleston and was the daughter of the late Samuel and Elizabeth Haddad.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Theodore Harvey Ghiz, and brother, Clifford A. Haddad.
Marian graduated from South Charleston High School and attended Marshall College, now Marshall University. She was a past member of the Fort Hill Garden Club and the Beaumont Garden Club. She was also a charter member of the Charleston Light Opera Guild, having performed in early productions. Marian served on the Women's Committee of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra.
Marian was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, sang in the chancel choir for 25 years and was a member of the Altar Guild. While a member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church, she was a member of the Vestry, served on the Altar Guild and was a Stephens Minister. In recent years she has attended St. Timothy Lutheran Church.
Marian is survived by her children, Daphne Ghiz Boder (Robert) of Charleston, Jennifer Ghiz Bates (Steven) of Atlanta, Ga., Theodore H. Ghiz Jr. of Atlanta, Ga., and Sarah Ghiz Korwan (Geoffrey) of Charleston; grandchildren, Emily Boder Ewing (Ryan), Lauren Boder Louka (Patrick), Sam Boder, Ann Bates, Molly Bates, Catherine Korwan and Ann Elizabeth Korwan; and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Walter Haddad (Anita) of Santa Monica, Calif., and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 24, at St. Timothy Lutheran Church, 900 Lawndale Lane, Charleston, with Father John Hagan officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, at Snodgrass Funeral Home, South Charleston. Sprinkling of ashes will be at St. Matthews Columbarium following the service.
