The Live Well Charlie West Corporate Cook-Off will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Capitol Market. The event pits employees of 11 businesses against each other in an “Iron Chef” style cooking competition. Each team will be provided five mystery ingredients to create the meal. Teams will have access to a pantry filled with spices, condiments, oils and other ingredients. The Corporate Cook-off aims to demonstrate how to make a quick, healthy meal using seasonal produce. All produce will be supplied by the SAGE microfarms located on Charleston’s West Side. Registration to attend is $15. Food (cooked elsewhere) and beverages will be provided. Historical open house
The St. Albans Historical Society will be having an open house from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 2 at their museum at 404 Fourth Ave., St. Albans. Bring old St. Albans photos to be scanned and view the hundreds of displays.
Al-Anon/Alateen offers open and free support group meetings for those that have family and friends that have an addiction. Al-anon meetings are held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 1105 Quarrier St.; noon Wednesdays at the Kanawha County Day Report Center, 900 Christopher St.; and 7 p.m. Thursdays in the Edgewood area at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church, 819 Somerset Dr. Alateen meetings for teens who deal with the alcoholism and/or drug addiction of a family member or friend meets at 7 p.m. Thursdays in the Edgewood area at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church, 819 Somerset Dr.; and noon on Friday at Christ Church United Methodist, 1221 Quarrier St., Room 200. Leave A Legacy program
The Leave A Legacy of Central Appalachia program is accepting new members. Leave A Legacy helps nonprofit organizations reach out to supporters for gifts through their estate plans. They provide workshops and educational meetings on relevant topics and Wills Week observances around the state during mid-October. The program is especially helpful to organizations with one or two fundraisers and a developed donor group.
