Girl Scout wins Gold Award

Anna Schles of Charleston has won the Girl Scout Gold Award for her Dara Care Kits for local cancer patients. The Gold Award is the highest award a Girl Scout can earn and an elite achievement, with only about 3,000 scouts receiving the honor annually.

Schles held several donation drives, including one at Charleston Newspapers, and was able to put together 164 kits with five items each. The kits will be distributed at CAMC’s David Lee Cancer Center to help ease the discomfort of chemotherapy for patients. They are named for longtime Charleston Catholic High School librarian Dara Krack, who passed away from cancer in May.

Schles, a Charleston Catholic High School graduate, will attend WVU in the fall. She is the daughter of David Schles and Judy Hamilton.
